What is an Instrument Rating?

An Instrument Rating (IR) allows you to fly in clouds, fog, and low-visibility conditions that would ground a VFR-only pilot. It’s the next step after your Private Pilot Certificate and one of the most valuable ratings you can earn — making you a safer, more capable, and more versatile pilot.

Fly in IMC conditions
Navigate clouds, fog, and low visibility safely using instruments alone
🛫
Fly instrument approaches
Land at airports using ILS, RNAV, VOR, and other precision approaches
📅
Fly more days per year
Stop being grounded by weather — your schedule becomes far more reliable
📈
Required for your Commercial certificate
The IR is a prerequisite for Commercial Pilot training
